Distinctive Plastics (DPI) has been serving in the injection molding industry since 1981, and we’ve seen many of the changes and innovations that our industry has gone through over the past decades.
At DPI, we find two main benefits of automating our molding process for our customers–Cost and Quality. In order to ensure our company and our customers remain competitive on a global scale, we’ve implemented several manufacturing automation solutions throughout our facility. These technologies optimize production efficiency, streamline various processes, reduce labor and production costs, and improve overall product quality.
We believe the best benefit that comes with automation is our ability to increase the quality we offer our customers. Maintaining the consistency of each molding cycle, including material handling before and after the actual molding process, often has the biggest impact on quality. The moment we introduce a human element into the cycle, at any point, the cycle will inevitably vary, causing quality to suffer.
Automated operations are not only exact–they consistently repeat with that exactness, no matter how simple the process. Gate trimming for example can be done manually, but the time it takes will vary, whereas automated trimming happens the exact same way every time. Plus, automation also increases our ability to efficiently perform secondary or value-added operations, like marking or printing.
In these days of global competition, DPI utilizes automation technology more and more in order to keep our prices low. Thanks to our use of robotic automation, we can offer you a lower “Total Part Cost” when compared with conventional techniques that require more labor, more time, or simply more specialized technologies. With lower total costs, we help you remain competitive even on a global scale, while still maintaining a strict adherence to producing a quality product.
DPI has incorporated automation technology into a wide range of processes across our facility. Injection molding, quality inspections, post-molding needs, and even in our medical Class-8 Clean Room operations. As of EOY 2023, over 88% of our current production utilizes Robotic Automation.
