One of the biggest obstacles to domestic manufacturing in the U.S. in comparison to offshore manufacturing suppliers in any industry is the cost of labor. At Distinctive Plastics (DPI) we have worked hard to mitigate that disadvantage, both with providing better quality and lower overall production costs through the integration of automated technologies throughout our facility. Today, we are exploring the major services that we offer where we have integrated automation that improves our efficiency, quality, and long term customer costs.
In order to offer more cost efficient services to our customers, we have automated much of our insert molding process. DPI utilizes robotics for applying inserts and unloading parts in most of our insert molding machines. This allows us to eliminate the need for human intervention for unloading finished parts and offers more accurate insert placement, and even speeds up the slower parts of production.
Post-molding assembly can be an unexpected expense, both for time and money. At DPI, we utilize robotics at several of our injection molding lines to perform sub-assemblies of parts right off the machines. This helps to speed up secondary operations like assembly, and reduces labor costs as well, while improving the consistency of our quality at the same time.
We have also automated our in-mold decoration services, the process of creating decorative finishes for parts during injection molding, both for medical and non-medical customers. Automated IMD processes are far more accurate, both in the produced results and in the consistency of those results. This saves a significant amount of time, speeding up the IMD process and reducing the need for secondary operations after molding is complete.
