We spent last year doing something a lot of companies talk about but fewer actually do. We took a hard look at how we operate. Not just in terms of output, but in terms of responsibility. We looked at our energy use, our labor practices, our ethics and who we buy from. Then we invited a third party to verify it all.
As of February 2026, that work has paid off. EcoVadis, a global leader in business sustainability ratings, awarded Distinctive Plastics (DPI-Tech) a Bronze Medal. This might sound like just another piece of digital artwork for our website, but it actually means something specific. It places us in the top 35% of all companies registered with EcoVadis worldwide.
To put that in perspective, EcoVadis has assessed over 130,000 companies across 180 countries and 220 industries. Being in the top third of that massive group tells us (and you) that our approach to environment, ethics and social responsibility is not just a slogan on a poster in the breakroom. It is a functioning part of how we do business.
EcoVadis does not hand out medals lightly. They rate companies on 21 criteria spread across four core themes: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. The assessment looks for documented policies, concrete actions and actual results.
To qualify for a Bronze Medal, a company must score in the 65th percentile or higher. That means we scored better than 65 out of every 100 companies that went through this process. It also requires a minimum score of 30 out of 100 in every single theme. You cannot have one strong area cover up a weak one. You have to show a baseline level of competence across the board.
For us, this was never about getting a trophy. It was about pressure-testing our business. We wanted to find the gaps in our practices before a customer found them for us. The EcoVadis process forces you to validate your claims with evidence. It is one thing to say you care about sustainable procurement; it is another to show a reviewer the policy document, the training records and the supplier evaluation forms that prove it.
Here is a fact that drove much of our effort: Danaher and all its subsidiaries pay close attention to EcoVadis ratings. For those who don't know, that portfolio includes major names like Johnson & Johnson (specifically the J&J MedTech side), Beckman Coulter and Cepheid.
When a company of that size evaluates a supplier, they are not just looking at price and lead time anymore. They are looking at risk. They want to know if their supply chain partners operate in a way that aligns with their own ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) goals and public reporting requirements. An EcoVadis scorecard gives them a transparent, third-party verified snapshot of exactly that.
By earning this Bronze Medal, we are making it easier for our customers to do business with us. It speeds up their supplier onboarding and qualification process. They do not have to send us a separate 50-question sustainability survey; they can look at our EcoVadis scorecard and see exactly where we stand.
We are being honest about where we sit. A Bronze Medal puts us in the top 35%. That is a solid starting point, but it is not the finish line. There is room to grow toward Silver and Gold and we have a clear roadmap from EcoVadis telling us exactly what to fix to get there.
The process highlighted where we are strong and, just as importantly, where we need to improve. Our team is already working on the action plan. For our customers, this means you are partnering with a plastics manufacturer that is transparent about its performance and actively working to raise the bar.
We did not do this just to check a box for a sales pitch. We did it because the big players in medical and industrial manufacturing - the Danahers of the world - expect their partners to be accountable. We are now formally in that conversation.
